Sculpture …
My first foray into Ceramics began with sculptural pieces. A 3D representation of a concept. Paper clay was the medium of choice as I had previously made life size works with welded armatures and a mix of shredded paper, papier mache and the addition of gyprock plaster powder. These were extremely durable works that could be painted as well. Paper clay is a versatile product and larger pieces followed.. some disasters became memorable and the wall plaques came from latex moulds I developed. I saw these as the beginning of my search to make artworks more functional. They engaged the viewer but had no substantial function other than to entertain. This is when I decided to take a new path.
